Studio City

It's located in the San Fernando Valley, east of Sherman Oaks and west of Burbank.

Welcome to Studio City

They say that there are almost 1,000 different neighborhoods in LA, and as a native Angeleno, I've lived, worked, and played in many of them. Now, as a Realtor®, I'm highlighting some of my favorites to help you explore my beautiful city and find the right home in the right neighborhood, wherever that may be. Today, I'm in Studio City.

Located in the San Fernando Valley, east of Sherman Oaks and west of Burbank, Studio City got its name after silent film pioneer, Mack Sennett built one of the first movie studios in 1927 (now Radford Studios). Because of its proximity to Universal, Warner Bros., NBC, and Disney, many actors, writers, and other industry folks call it home, finding the relative calm, anonymity, and “lower-than-westside” home prices very attractive.

What to Expect

Mellow, quiet, and surprisingly hip, Studio City is a hub of mid-century architecture, and its many post-WWII buildings have been beautifully kept up. Pay a visit to the Laurelwood Apartments and the Goodwin House, both are the work of Rudolph Schindler, a student of Frank Lloyd Wright. While the median list price for a single-family home is $2.5M, starter homes begin around $1.2M escalating above $6M for some of the grander estates and hillside view homes. For those considering condos and townhomes, 2 bedrooms can be had beginning around $675k.

You'll Fall In Love With

Attracting affluent suburban families, entertainment industry professionals, and celebrities who enjoy privacy, Studio City has a small-town feel—trees line the streets, people greet one another, and everyone shops locally. But it also supports a number of hip eateries and boutiques. Here are three recent additions to the neighborhood.

The Write-Off Room

The Write-Off Room

A music venue created for musicians by a musician, the location itself has been a hotspot for nightlife since it opened in 1936 as Rex’s White Cabin. 5 years later, it reopened as the Zomba Café, an upscale burlesque theater, and then from 1968 through January 2021, it was Oil Can Harry’s, the oldest gay club in LA, known for its retro and country western vibes.

Calleen Cordero

Calleen Cordero began designing her line in 1999 with a simple idea to make handmade artisan quality footwear, handbags, and accessories as authentic as it was beautiful, as comfortable as it was luxurious, and as nourishing to the soul as it was to the eye. Now you can explore all their creations in person at their flagship lifestyle boutique storefront.

Roberta's Pizza

Roberta's Pizza

Roberta's has just opened its 2nd LA location at the Sportsmen’s Lodge at Coldwater Canyon and Ventura Boulevard. Originally born in Brooklyn, it was named one of the top 15 pizzerias in America by USA Today. Known for its wood-fired pizzas and hipster "Tiki Disco" parties, try the Bee Sting; tomato, mozzarella, soppressata, basil, chili, and honey.

Curiosity

Sushi Row in Studio City

Studio City has affectionately been known as “sushi row” for the highest concentration of raw fish outside of Japan. But, thanks to the Shops at Sportsmen’s Lodge, the area now brims with Valley versions of such westside stalwarts as Erewhon, Fred Segal, and Joan’s on Third, which has shed new light on a walkable stretch already lined with beignet and wine bars and the only remaining Licorice Pizza record store in the country.
