It’s a Small World: The Confidence of “No”

It’s a Small World: The Confidence of “No”

Greetings Friends.

There is a particular gravity to the "darkest days of winter." It is a season that naturally turns us inward, reminding us that when the world feels a bit uncertain, love and integrity are not sentimental ideas, they’re stabilizers. In these moments, we find ourselves searching for the people and ideas that offer not just expertise, but a sense of grounded reliability—the steady hands that help us navigate the unknown path forward.

In this month’s newsletter, I’m thrilled to introduce you to a friend and colleague in North Texas whose calm confidence and market insights bring steadiness to her clients. I’m also diving into the latest intelligence on the Los Feliz market, where livability is quietly commanding a premium across both the Village and the Hills. And finally, I’m sharing a hard-earned lesson from my talent agency days to explore what trust actually looks like when there’s something real at stake.

With gratitude/ps

Southern Soul and Western Sensibility: Meet Amy Berry

I’m a fan of realtors who can keep a transaction calm while everyone else is spiraling, and Amy Berry is built for exactly that. As a Certified Negotiation Expert with a psychology background (which feels unfair in the best way), Amy has spent more than 15 years guiding clients with what she calls a blend of calm confidence and go-getter drive, and the kind of patience people only rave about when it’s real.

Originally from Memphis, Amy brings a deep love for BBQ and the blues to the vibrant northern suburbs within the "triangle" of Dallas, Fort Worth, and Denton. As a founding partner of the Berry Boyd Group, Amy doesn’t just navigate transactions; she builds relationships through "rigorous honesty," ensuring her clients always get the "good, the bad, and the ugly" so they can make the best investment for their future

Is North Texas on your radar? If so, I'd enjoy connecting you with Amy. In the meantime, you can meet her in the short video below.

The Price Point: LA Market Intelligence

The Price Point is a weekly intelligence report designed to start a conversation about value versus price. Each week, we analyze 3 properties within one of LA’s micro-markets.

This week, we are looking at the architectural and cultural heart of Los Angeles: Los Feliz. The headline isn’t about rates or pricing. It’s about reducing friction. In this segment, buyers are assigning real dollar value to homes that reduce daily complexity: parking clarity, usable outdoor space, clean layouts, and a “known quantity” renovation story. Anything that adds uncertainty (layout compromises, deferred maintenance, hillside logistics without payoff) gets priced like a liability.

While the three properties identified in the report represent three distinct micro-neighborhoods, Los Feliz VIllage, Los Feliz Hills & Franklin Hills, they all share the same theme: livability wins out.

Rekindling the Love

Last week, I had the privilege of facilitating a mindset workshop for more than 100 high-achieving Compass colleagues. While the goal was to help them “Rekindle their Love” of the business, the experience taught me three profound lessons that apply to any profession.

  • Embrace the nerves. I’m not a natural extrovert, but I learned that stepping through the intimidation of a large audience is a sure path forward to growth.
  • Ask for help. I realized early on that I couldn't run the tech and the conversation simultaneously and delegating that task was the key to a successful event.
  • Accept the win. I've always found it hard to simply absorb a compliment, but this week I practiced letting the gratitude land. It was a reminder that reconnecting with the heart of our business often starts with being vulnerable enough to connect with each other. And that in turn may have been the most rewarding part of the experience.

The Art of Representation: Unpacked

Trust isn’t built when things are easy; it’s built when there is something to lose. I often talk about representing my clients' best interests, but what does that look like in practice?

In this short video, I share a story from my days as a talent agent and a difficult decision involving an actress, a terrible contract, and the iconic film Flashdance. It’s a lesson in why the right move for your career is rarely the easiest one, and why I carry that same philosophy into my work representing my clients today.
